Market update
As markets head into May, investors are navigating a more uncertain environment shaped by inflation pressures, elevated energy prices and evolving Federal Reserve policy expectations. Inflation remains above target and is showing signs of firming, with recent estimates placing year-over-year inflation around 3.5 percent, complicating the path forward for interest rates. The Federal Reserve has held rates steady in recent meetings and is signaling a cautious approach as policymakers weigh persistent inflation against a gradually slowing economy. At the same time, rising oil prices tied to ongoing geopolitical tensions have added volatility across both equity and bond markets and may delay anticipated rate cuts.
